How do I backup my data?▼
To backup your data:
- Open Settings in the app
- Navigate to "Data Management"
- Tap "Backup Data"
- Choose a location to save the JSON file
- Store the backup file safely (cloud storage, computer, etc.)
Tip: Regular backups are recommended, especially before major updates or device changes.
How do I restore my data on a new device?▼
To restore your data:
- Install SpendSee on your new device
- Transfer your backup JSON file to the new device
- Open Settings → Data Management
- Tap "Restore Backup"
- Select your backup JSON file
- Confirm the import
Note: This will add the backup data to existing data, not replace it.
What are premium features and how do I unlock them?▼
Premium features include:
- Receipt scanning with ML-powered text recognition
- Unlimited custom categories
- Budget reminder notifications
- Passcode & biometric protection
- Home screen widgets
To unlock:
- Open Settings
- Tap "Unlock Premium"
- Complete the one-time purchase ($6.99)
Note: Premium is a one-time purchase (not a subscription) tied to your App Store/Google Play account.
How do I restore my premium purchase?▼
If you purchased premium on another device:
- Install SpendSee on your new device
- Sign in with the same Apple ID (iOS) or Google account (Android)
- Open Settings
- Tap "Restore Purchases"
- Premium features will be unlocked automatically
Note: You must use the same account that made the original purchase.
Is my financial data secure?▼
Yes! Your data security is our top priority:
- All data is stored locally on your device
- We never collect, transmit, or store your financial information
- Optional passcode protection with encryption (premium feature)
- Biometric authentication support (Face ID, Touch ID, Fingerprint)
- No third-party analytics or tracking
- No ads or data sharing

How does receipt scanning work?▼
Receipt scanning uses machine learning to extract data from receipt photos:
- Take a photo of your receipt or select from photo library
- The app processes the image locally on your device
- ML extracts amount, date, and merchant name
- Review and confirm the extracted data
- Save as a transaction
Note: Receipt images are processed locally and never uploaded to servers. Accuracy may vary based on receipt quality and formatting.
Can I change my currency?▼
Yes! SpendSee supports 24 currencies:
- Open Settings
- Tap "Currency"
- Select your preferred currency
Note: Changing currency will update the symbol display but will not convert existing transaction amounts.
How do budget notifications work?▼
Budget notifications (premium feature) remind you of upcoming bill payments:
- Create a budget with a due date
- Enable notifications in Settings
- Choose how many days before the due date to be notified (1, 2, 3, 5, or 7 days)
- Select notification time (default: 9:00 AM local time)
- Receive reminders on working days (excludes weekends)
Android: You'll be prompted to grant notification permission when enabling this feature.
Troubleshooting
App crashes or freezes
Try these steps:
- Force close and restart the app
- Restart your device
- Ensure you have the latest version installed
- Check for iOS/Android system updates
- If issue persists, contact support with device model and app version
Widgets not updating
To fix widget issues:
- Remove and re-add the widget
- Open the app to trigger a data refresh
- Check that premium is unlocked (widgets are a premium feature)
- Restart your device if widgets still don't update
Biometric authentication not working
Check these settings:
- Ensure Face ID/Touch ID/Fingerprint is set up in device settings
- Go to SpendSee Settings → Security → Enable biometric unlock
- Try disabling and re-enabling biometric authentication
- Make sure your device supports biometric authentication
